Who is #God/Jesus to you?

Is God a demanding, unreasonable, passive, far fetched, incomprehensive person? Or is He an #intimate, captivating, loving, faithful God who knows you best? It is imperative that you are able to discern your own perceptions of God for a myriad of reasons. Three reasons  come to mind:-

1. Your perceptions of God will determine your level of expectation and #faith (Heb 11;6)

Faith is the currency that works in heaven. On earth to access food and clothes money is necessary. For us to access the things of God faith is crucial; for it is by faith that we please God. When He is pleased- His blessings are released. Therefore if our perceptions of God are hampering our faith we need to clarify who God is to us. The scripture describes Him as #love. If your view of love is warped;based on how your father treated you, or your boyfriend or a friend who said they loved you treated you then you are bound to  have a wrong perception. This will affect how we receive Him or from Him. Our Father is love because He defines love. The bible says “faith comes from hearing” not from reading the word.  When we read and meditate on the Word we will hear the voice of God behind the Word. If the Word is truth we should experience it. When we hear the voice of God we will know how to apply the Word in our circumstances and this will change our perceptions of God and increase our faith in Him.

2. Your revelation of God will determine how much of Him you will reflect (Romans 5;1)

Gen 1:26 tells us that God made us in His own image. Which means we look like Him or we are made to reflect Him. In 1 John 4:17 it says that as Jesus is so are we in this world. This tells us we are representatives or ambassadors of Jesus Himself. If our view of Him is warped then we will view ourselves in an incorrect way and will exhibit wrong behaviours. I grew up feeling abandoned and rejected. As a result and I manifested behaviours of  negative thinking about self, which lead to insecurity and the need to prove myself. My behaviours only began to change as I began to see myself through the eyes of Jesus. Although I still struggle with wrong thoughts, when I revert to what God said about me, it aligns my thinking with His, so I can manifest the right behaviour. Eg. 1Cor 6:19-20 I have been bought at a price I belong to God(I am accepted). 1John5:18 I am born of God and the evil one cannot touch me (I am secure). Ephesians 2:6 I am seated with Jesus Christ in the Heavenly realm ( I am valued and honored).

3. Your view of God will determine your level of #intimacy with Him (James 4:8)

In John 14:21 The Lord says that He will reveal Himself to the obedient. Obedience is birth from trust-trust is cultivated when two people are open and honest with each other. In James 4 He says that if you draw close to Him, He will draw close to you. The bible teaches us many principles that God Himself abides by. He has said we should not be unequally yoked. Which is to reveal oneself sexually to someone you are not married to. My husband and I refused to expose ourselves to each other before we got married (because God said). A revelation of who God is comes as we reveal ourselves to Him. When we become naked before Him, (sharing everything) He then reveals Himself to us. Exposure of oneself leads to intimacy. I certainly would not expose myself to someone I did not trust. Would you? If your perception of God is wrong then it will prevent you from drawing close to Him and affect the level of Intimacy.

Practical Application:- Ask yourself what is your honest view of God/#Jesus? Are you perceptions based on some dysfunctional relationship?

Write down your perceptions:- Seek to intimately know the heart of God a fresh today by studying the book of John. I like the book of John because that is where I fell in love with Jesus. The apostle John had an intimate relationship with Jesus and His writings imparts that knowing.
